Living in CENTRAL LONDON

Can someone who lives in Central London give me an idea of how much it would really cost to buy a 1/2 bedroom flat? I'm having a difficult time finding anything...

Try east London (Leyton, Leytonstone, Walthamstow) all got the tube. The prices have fallen a bit and you can still get a good bargain, especially in Walthamstow where there are two bed Victorian terrace houses still around for 250K (flats 180-210 for two bedrooms in central areas, lots of Victorian conversions, you can offer around 10 per cent less). Walthamstow has a 'village' where you can get really nice properties, they cost a bit more but much cheaper than everywhere else in commutable London. The whole area is full of families and I'm sad to leave as it's quite nice to live here. NCT and Surestart activities available. Very close to Oxford Circus on tube, good buses (all night and frequent) and a train station.

Beware of certain 'trendy areas' of London, such as Hackney/Bethnal Green area, where crime is high. I lived there for over eight years and it has become very expensive and crime is still rife (got robbed, got burglared). I would stay away from some parts of south London too. I have lived permanently in London since 1994 in different areas but stayed for shorter periods since 1984, so I have seen quite a few changes!

Whatever you choose, make sure there is a tube station at least, some locations already mentioned have only train stations and it's not the same thing. Also if you like going out in central london, make sure you have night buses in your area that are regular.
