RSJ Fitted for Bifolds - Building Control Help

We had a structural engineer do the calculations for us to make an opening between the patio doors and window to add sliding doors. The builder took all these and has today just finished the work and the new doors get fitted tomorrow. However, it just occurred to me that he hasn't mentioned anything about getting the work signed off.

Please can someone advise me if it is too late? The beam is currently visible and will be until it is plastered over after tomorrow.

Take photos. Also of the pad stones. Use a tape to have a visual measurement.
Phone the engineer and ask them.

We realised 3 years after having a new steel beam installed for French doors, that the project manager never had the council out for a final inspection.

We contacted building control, we had photos of the beam going in. He took a 30 second look and signed it off, and we received the completion certificate a few days later.

It was a pretty easy process! We still had the structural engineer’s calcs and I think a receipt for the steel. If you take photos and keep a paper trail it should be fine. Ask your fitter tomorrow about it.

I think that strictly speaking you should have applied to building control before starting the work and then they liaise with the builder about when to come and inspect. It should be fine though, just talk with the builder and building control.
