Does this look like an OK way to repair a blown out brick (pic attached)

Broadband guy drilled a hole from the inside out and damaged the brick. He came back and did this, to repair/prevent water ingress. I think it looks awful, but looks aside, would this do the job and no further repairs are needed?

obviously water running down the wall from above may bet behind that cover unless it was sealant was used to "stick" it to the bricks. The opening for the wire is huge so against theoretically if the wind is in the "right" direction water could be blown in so hopefully the actual hole through the brick has has "plod" applied to seal it.

Aesthetically you are correct, it is not good, but what was the option? Cutting out and fitting a new brick would stand out anyway.
Yes you can apply coloured mortar and an experienced person would, at that height off the ground, probably end up with an almost invisible repair, but that costs money and is not the sort of work a get a broadband contractor would do.

What is your objective?

  • get money in compensation? Good luck claiming that as they have "repaired" it
  • get them to come back and do something different? "They" are not the best choice for that!

The hole should be at the bottom as moisture can get in sideways but otherwise I think this is standard

Thank you. Not looking for compensation, just wanted to know if this is adequate for the purpose.

Usual shite installation. Why doesn’t it have a drip loop?

textcurrent · 26/03/2026 21:01

OK I've just googled it. Should I ask them to put one? They're asking if I'm happy with it.

If it was me, I would complain.

one what?
drip loop not vital as the wire is horizontal and any water touching it will more likely track right and run down the wire, There should however be a drip loop at the bottom of the vertical run if the wire then enters the house down below?
