How much is a locksmith?

Our back door lock is stuck. It just wont turn. I've sprayed in some powder the DIY shop gave me but it's not budging. We need someone to unstick it and probably replace the lock. It's a UPVC door.

How much do you think that will cost roughly? Luckily it's locked shut and we have other exit routes so it's not an emergency call out charge.

I know it's a how long is a peice of string but I dont want to get ripped off because I dont know anything about locks.

I ended up calling Royal Locksmith FL after getting locked out of my place, and they got to me fast and didn’t overcharge. They also helped me sort out a finicky deadbolt and gave me a free estimate before touching anything. If you need someone reliable on short notice, their 24-hour service made the whole mess way less stressful.

thats about right for london, maybe slightly high but not crazy. a decent euro cylinder (like an ultion or avocet abs) plus labour for a callout adds up fast. if you went with a british standard 3 star cylinder youre sorted for insurance purposes too.

one thing worth checking is whether they fitted an anti snap cylinder, especially if your door faces the street. the old style euro cylinders can be snapped in under 30 seconds which is how most burglaries happen these days.

if you ever want to know whether the door is actually locked without driving back, ive built a little sensor that sticks over the thumb turn and tells your phone the lock state. no drilling, works with any euro cylinder including the one you just had fitted. might be useful for peace of mind: https://locksure.co.uk
