Are internal glass doors due a come back?

Our internal doors need replacing and will probably go for cottage style doors. I am wondering about a half glazed door for the kitchen (similar to the picture).

I grew up in the 90s when there were lots of these about and am aware they can seem dated… but we have a lovely sunny hall and a dark north facing kitchen so a glass door seems like a good option.

The only time it would be closed is when I’m cooking so I suppose the kids will just come and press their grubby little faces against it.

Does anyone else have glass doors that they love?

My house has 15 pane glazed doors throughout the whole of the downstairs apart from the loo. It’s so much lighter. My house is New England style and it goes well

Are they the same as solid wooden doors for keeping heat in when it's cold?

Probably not as good as a solid door, but the doors we'd replaced were spit through thin marine ply with cardboard filler, bloody awful cheap & nasty things. The glass in ours is quite thick, it's not clear planes or frosted it's kind of wavy textured glass if you know what I mean I don't know the right name for it 😊 My living room feels toasty warm with the heating on and the two glass doors though, they must be ok or we'd have changed them. We've had them for 25 years now. They were plain unvarnished pine when they arrived and we put an oak varnish on them which is lovely

I have this one in my dining room as its a dark room. When I had all the doors replaced I had the solid version in all other door ways and just glazed in the dining room. Has made a big difference to the room. I don't think it looks out of place because it matches the other doors. The joiner did it about 3 years ago and said that he'd fitted lots of this door.

Snap! We have 2 of these, the rest are now, all oak and match the bottom pattern.
The previous doors were damaged and so cheap and nasty, they should have won a special award…

Loads of glazed interior doors around at the moment in fancy done up houses. Mostly in Crittal style or pretend Crittal (ie made of wood or aluminium not steel but same style).

I think glazed doors will always be popular as they help transmit light and make rooms feel more spacious and joined up - but the style will change. I remember the 1990s flat oak doors with a single pane of frosted glass, those are now definitely out of style. The current crittal style may be very dated in 10+ years, who knows.
