Hi, I’m in the process of separating and moving home to a new area. Basically starting over again. I haven’t bought anything for the house for a long time. Where would people recommend, please?
I like my style but I can’t pay through the nose. Please recommend away!

I’ve had IKEA furniture last me 30 years, I definitely start with that.
Beautifully expensive Laura Ashley furniture didn’t cope well with a couple of House moves

We have a fairly individual style and my go to is always eBay. Over the past 20+ years very little in our home hasn't come from there. We've bought everything from furniture costing a few £££ to several thousand and fabric remnants for a fiver from which I've made lovely cushion covers.

Also, fleamarkets, car boots (oriental cabinet for £20 last year) and auction houses (original art for peanuts).

Homesense/TK Maxx used to be good, but not so much since covid imo.

Check if any local charities have a furniture shop near you - our local hospice has a huge furniture shop where we’ve got some great stuff

People practically give their furniture away — Facebook, Gumtree and also auctions are great places to find bargains.

Completely agree especially if you like dark furniture as that appears to be out of fashion at the moment. Freecycle might also be a good shout. When we were clearing out my parents home we disposed of a lot of furniture that way.
Id forgotten about Debenhams so I looked on there this morning and
bought a rather lovely plant stand !

EBay - I bought some nice pieces and vintage items for a mid century look. A basic bed frame and other items where I wanted comfort and good quality without the price tag! Brands that are £££ new are listed at bargain prices in great condition. Some ex display are very good value. I got a pair of IKEA armchairs at £60 each as new instead of £279!
La Redoute - in the sale - for lighting and accessories
Argos/Habitat for hanging rail/storage instead of a wardrobe

Not sure about home wares - years ago we bought plain white crockery from the Conran shop so we could replace broken items/for continuity. Would love to find a cheaper but similar option on the high street….
