New boiler cost?

ClubMedAlternative · 16/03/2026 22:55

We’ve been quoted £3277 + VAT including installation for a new gas boiler which seems a lot - but maybe that’s just what things cost now? It’s a small two bed house if that makes difference and we are in the south Midlands.

It's the installation cost, boilers are around £600,. We are in the SE and ours cost £2k 10 years ago.

ReturnofthePan · 16/03/2026 23:05

That’s about right. I have 5 rads in a two bed house. Last year it was £3200.

delna · 16/03/2026 23:08

We found it cheaper to buy the boiler ourselves online then just paid for installation. ( So about 2k all in)

Justwingingit2005 · 16/03/2026 23:10

We had new boiler, all new pipes and 8 radiators. Was 6k all in last yr.

ClubMedAlternative · 16/03/2026 23:16

Interesting, thank you everyone - I hadn’t thought of buying the boiler ourselves though have fallen foul of buying our own kit for builders before and them then disclaiming responsibility if there are any problems…
But I will certainly look into it, and definitely at the Costco option as well. I’m not a member at the moment but definitely worth joining!

We paid £1,800 for a Worcester Bosch three years ago. North Yorkshire so maybe labour costs are cheaper here.

Honestyboxy · 17/03/2026 02:46

Yes that’s about right. My mother had one fitted a few weeks ago.

Summerhillsquare · 17/03/2026 05:51

Yikes. Might as well get a heat pump at that price.

Rollercoaster1920 · 17/03/2026 07:16

I ended up going to Worcester Bosch direct because their online cost was cheaper than local firms.
Then a local firm actually fits it.

Great for standard installs.

Spaghettea · 17/03/2026 07:18

My replacement combi was £3k last summer. Small 3 bed in the south.

Nannyfannybanny · 17/03/2026 07:26

Combi boilers are cheaper, but parts are more expensive, you loose the tanks so no stored hot water. A relative went for the combi option, has moved and returned to standard self condensing.. average heat pump installed is far south of £12k. We explored all options,4 years ago we had 12 solar panels,2 batteries. Guess what Milliband, the sun ain't shining today (we live near the Sunshine coast,se facing roof) oh, and he has a gas boiler!!

Girlintheframe · 17/03/2026 07:30

We replaced our combo boiler 3 years ago with a Worcester Bosch. Can’t remember if we bought the boiler ourself but that’s the kind of thing we would normally do. Was 2.5 k all in. We are in Scotland though in a relatively small terraced house.

RedRiverShore6 · 17/03/2026 07:35

I would probably look at the Costco one, it's only 25kW but for your size house that is probably what you need anyway

lljkk · 17/03/2026 07:44

Including VAT, £2800 for a ? 25kwh Baxi combi boiler installed (replacement) 18m ago in Eastern England.

TroysMammy · 17/03/2026 07:49

Mine was £5k but it was a new installation, a 10 year warranty and back boiler decommissioned.

Somersetbaker · 17/03/2026 09:34

Have you tried getting a quote from Boxt, they fit Worcester Bosch using local trademen very quickly. My niece was very impressed, ordered on Saturday, fitted on Wednesday, interest free credit and she could use Quidco.

carmexmum · 17/03/2026 09:41

ours was £6.6k - incl. new boiler, old boiler and 2 x water tanks removed and some pipe work (2.5 day job). south east.
we held off a week or so accepting the quote and they offered us £200 off as an incentive which i think is worth knowing.

GasPanic · 17/03/2026 10:29

Well it depends on the complexity of the installation.

Whether it is just the boiler, you are getting magnetic traps, system flush, boiler is moved position etc as well. What sort of guarantee you get with it.

But the price you quote doesn't sound completely out of order. You'll always find someone on here who says they paid 10k (because it was fitted along with everything else including rads and cylinder in a giant mansion but they don't mention that) or they paid 1K (because it was a cheap crap boiler fitted by some dodgy engineer who will never be seen again after the install but they don't mention that either).

You should be able to get a baseline idea of what the replacement cost is by going to Boxt or BG, who will probably be more expensive but a better install than a local independent.

The independent should be at least cheaper than the big companies because they don't have the overheads. But there is of course a price to be paid for that.

Depends on the house insulation, number of rads and system type, but generally 25kW would be too high a power for a system boiler in a house of that size. Combi boilers generally need higher power though due to the instantaneous water delivery requirements.

Three years ago in southwest, five bedroom detached, paid £2.5k for Glowworm with our lovely independent plumber.
