How much to have a wood burner installed?
Made fatal mistake of going from open fire to an expensive electric fire instead of wood burner so now want the real deal. Still have working chimney.

Theres a consultation going on about the government trying to ban them or at least restrict them. And they will have powers to enter your home and fine you thousands so Id be wary of getting one now.

I think you're getting ahead of yourself a bit there

'theres a consultation' to 'they will have powers to enter your home'

lol

Sorry. Badly worded. I will attach the consultation.

Let's face it. It hasn't got much publicity so the recommendations will probably go through given that Ed Milliband seems to be in charge of things these days. I wouldn't be buying a woodburner. Although I have two and the price of oil to heat our house is what it is....

  • Stricter emission limits for new stoves – introducing tougher smoke emission standards for new appliances placed on the market.
  • Mandatory labelling for stoves and fuels – providing clear information on emissions, permitted fuels, and health impacts to help consumers make informed choices.
  • Increased enforcement penalties – raising penalties for suppliers who breach fuel standards to ensure compliance.

Copied from the link you supplied. They appear to be looking at tougher emissions standards for new stoves and fines for suppliers that breach these standards. Unless I’ve missed something (skim read only) there’s nothing about fining stove owners or stopping anyone using their existing stove.

Have a look at the questions. 35 and 37, 49 are the relevant ones I suppose. Let's face it. The aim is to ultimately ban woodburners and thats been true for a long time.

They wont ban them. The most they'll do, if they're smart (and this would sting me) is put a premium on the price of them as 'tax' and add something extra to CTAX for those already with them perhaps.

I'd have to pay it as I would never get rid of ours and like I say I would love to afford more in the house. Love it.

Well Ive got two and an open fire similar to most people where I live so everyone is rather concerned. I hope you're right. The government have kept the consultation very quiet so far so not much opposition to the interference.
