If only AI could declutter my house.

Oh, sod that, I'll just get AI to take my house, clutter and all, from oop north and put it in the middle of West London - I'll be an instant billionnaire!

Allseeingallknowing · 14/03/2026 17:31

I feel better about my home now! AI is brilliant, but of course the actual viewing will be a great shock, unless the owners are shamed into doing a huge clean up!

I wish AI would declutter its descriptions. Do we seriously need telling that a bedroom can be used for 'rest and relaxation'?

And the garden is 'ideal for enjoying the summer months' and the living room 'the perfect space for entertaining'.

Because we would never think of doing any of that without artificial assistance.

It's amazing how many people don't realise that the place will be empty when they buy it, though. I have had prospective buyers say things like, "I don't like where the sofas are placed" as if they are having to move their stuff in around mine. Some people are weird!

I've said stuff like that - what I really meant was, "that's the only real place a sofa could go and it wouldn't work for the way I want my sofa/TV set up."

Some houses don't really have a layout that lets you sit with a TV directly in front of the sofa without it being stupidly high up on the wall due to fireplaces or other features. I'd pass on a house because of this as I'm disabled and stuck at home, my main hobby is gaming so I'd be dealing with it all day long.

Sometimes there's only one obvious place to put the furniture thoigh.

StationJack · 14/03/2026 17:55

My sofas and dining table are in the same place as where the previous owner has theirs. My NDN has a mirror image house and the furniture arrangement is totally different.

Justwantosay · 14/03/2026 17:59

They must really like cereal!

It does seem very misleading, especially the garden shot. I would worry what was hiding under all the clutter. And would the house even be cleared properly for moving in?! Our previous owner left so much crap in the loft and dumped furniture in the garden. House looked immaculate when we viewed, was a different story when we got the keys.

Na I like that, some people are less visual than others, I don’t think it means people are “thick” as so eloquently stated earlier. I think this is a pretty good (relatively) harmless* use of AI!

*yes except the environmental impact.

ihatecatlitter · 14/03/2026 18:58

Gosh I’d be well fucked off if I turned up and saw the actual garden - it’s completely different

But you’d turn up.

And then maybe think, have a punt on a low offer?

Given dire circumstances, it might work.

I sold a doer-upper recently and the agent did a bit of pic pimping and I don't think it helped...I should have got them to show unaltered pics, I think, so that only buyers happy to renovate came to visit.

Especially given how expensive renovations are now.

With you there 100%. "Where can we put the telly?" is my first consideration when looking at any living room. I'm not cricking my neck by putting it on the wall (which I don't like the aesthetic of, anyway). I've only got one telly - hate them in bedrooms and kitchens - so I want to watch it in comfort.

With me it's always "Where can I put the Christmas tree?" Grin I've already mentally turned down this thread's house because there's a nice bay window for the tree but the house doesn't appear to have stairs...
