I have not really posted, but would appreciate some insight. Currently live in a small market town Average four bed detached houses usually go for about £315000. I need to downsize to sink some money into my none existent pension. I will be mortgage free in about 18 months. I have no connections to my town and feel a new start would be good. I have been looking at Newcastle but really interested in other areas. I would need to find work in administration so that also needs taking into consideration. I could probably manage about three months before needing to get a job. Thank you in advance.

What are your hobbies? Are you reliant on public transport? Do you have a dog? Town v rural? Is a garden essential? Newcastle is a good shout.

My parents and sister live in Penrith. Very close to the Lakes, without the prices. And really good transport network. They love it.

Whitley Bay / Tynemouth? Newcastle is quite a small city but it is great! Depends what kind of life you want really

The areas of the North east that are most popular you won't get a 4 bed detached for £315,000. How much do you want to downsize? Are we talking 1 bed flat or 3 bed semi? Rural, city. coastal?

I've just moved back down south after several years in Newcastle - and I loved it there so highly recommend it. Gateshead isn't bad either. You won't regret it. The only negative for us was that our friends and family were so far away so if it's a fresh start and you're not so close to family, it's perfect. I miss the people, the countryside, access to Northumberland, Cumbria and Scotland, and the infrastructure there. Great museums, nature reserves, places to visit. Oh and the coastline there... perfect. Good luck. When I mentioned Gateshead earlier I specifically mean Low Fell, hehe.
