We are refurbishing our kitchen. We are on a tight budget so want to choose something we"ll still like and will still be 'on trend' in 5 years time. If we then decide to sell in 5 years we would like something that doesn't look dated by w . What would you choose/have chosen?
We are looking at slim/skinny shaker style with very narrow edging or very plain cupboard doors ...no edging/trim at all. I like both but I am very conscious that we can't afford to update again in 5 years if we wanted to show the house at it's best to sell in five years.
I am ancient and not up with trends. Can wise mumsnetters tell me what they did/wish they had done/or would do.
Thank you so much 😀

If you’re happy with the storage, spray the doors and change the handles.
There must be spray services near you. Google it.
I’ve had stuff professionally sprayed and it looks great.

I have been looking into kitchens a lot recently as I am buying a new build. Definitely go for shaker style and consider colour carefully. Current trend is for colours, I am considering a fern green. Worktops are important too, I cannot afford granite but may go for wood. Laminate is cheapest but buyers may not like that, but many people want to put their own kitchen in eventually so won’t always be put off by the kitchen, as we all design to our own tastes. Just don’t go for grey, as that is becoming dated now.

Thank you both for responding. I would just have the doors sprayed but I'm adding cupboards andi need the original and new to match.
The very plain cupboard doors seem to becoming more popular. Does anyone like them better than the slim shaker type? I agree I should go for a neutral colour.

My DD has plain front kitchen doors and they look great. Easy to clean and they are not really going to date. They are very light grey and it’s a marble effect solid surface worktop. Looks great to me.

I’ve got shaker style at home. A mix of pale grey and muted soft white. Granite worktop in a speckled white/grey. 15 years old and doesn’t look dated!

i think pale wood doors in a plain finish look very chic right now but get a pale worktop. You could not pay me to have wood. Far too much upkeep! We had it in a flat and got rid pretty quickly. Water and staining are issues and you need to oil every few months if you don’t seal it with a water impenetrable sealer. Just too much effort. Solid Surface looks great or go for a very good laminate.

I think these from my local supplier would stand the test of time pretty well
