Carpet question

My LL has agreed to recarpet the entire upstairs as they’ve frayed away into non existence, problem is the rooms aren’t huge and have the usual furniture in.
do I need to empty the rooms completely or can they work around or empty one room at a time?
To make matters worse I also have 4 cats to work around and no door on the kitchen. 🙄

You must fully empty at least one room before they can start work.

It can probably be carpeted in one day, but you would have to pay for some labourers to move your stuff at half-time. The carpetlayers might know someone local.

I don't know if this is usual, but I had a "man with van" who does small house moves, and had an assistant. They might have a day rate, if you are not strong enough to shift it all yourself. Bag or box up everything portable beforehand and put it somewhere else. If there is just a bedframe to move it will be easy.

Use transparent bags, not black ones.

Right okay, it might make sense for me to get them to do the landing first and work in a circle then, lucky the beds are divans so easy its mainly my sons desk that is going to be an issue As its a pain in the bum to take apart!
the lettings doing the carpet fitting themselves so hoping they might help me if not I will have to ask a friend.

We split it between 2 days. Moved everything from two bedrooms into the other two bedrooms, they carpeted the two empty rooms. Then we moved everything into the newly carpeted rooms and they came back and did the second two rooms. The more days they have to come, the higher the labour charges.

Am I the only one worried about you having no door on the kitchen ?

Is this allowed in a rented property ? Isn't it a fire hazard ?

the kitchen is a kitchen diner so open plan that they knocked through, then theres a door on the lounge. Otherwise the kitchen would be tiny made suitable for only hobits. Grin

Thats not a bad idea, dont think the labour issue is to much of a problem as they are employed by the agency its their own team. I will give them suggestions and see what they say is best as theres some other work they have to do too.
