Renovation during early pregnancy

Hi all

i posted this on the pregnancy forum but didn’t have much luck with responses so trying here too.

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant (about four weeks) on which is really exciting.

But I’ve suddenly started to worry as we’re halfway through a loft conversion and we’re living in the house while it’s done. The builders have just knocked through the ceiling so there is a lot of dust, and have had to saw into some old door frames which are covered in old (potentially lead based) paint.

I’ve not been doing any of the work myself but have been working from home in a room next door while this was going on and dipping in and out of the hallway where they’ve been working. The dust is still quite heavy despite the builders cleaning up after themselves.
I’ve now got myself in a bit of a tizzy about lead poisoning/exposing myself to toxins and all this dust at such an early stage in pregnancy.

Does anyone have any experience of this? Should we think about moving out until the work is finished in about 6 weeks? Or do anything else to protect the pregnancy?

Feeling quite stupid that I didn’t consider this as an issue at all until yesterday

Having lived in a reno myself, for 5 years and including a pregnancy i would say stick it out, 6 weeks is nothing at all but i get the concerns about dust etc. But imo not worth moving out for just 6 weeks unless you can live with parents etc.

Thank you! We can’t stay with parents but we’re thinking of an Airbnb within walking distance so we can still oversee the work and pop back for things, but don’t need to sleep with the dust. Not sure if that’s a total overreaction though!

If you can afford to move out for a bit do it! Living in a reno especially pregnant or with children is hell on earth. Good luck with the loft conversion and the rest of your pregnancy :)

We lived in with a baby (and 2 older kids) so not pregnant but with tiny baby airways around! It was fine. We got an air bnb for 2 days at one point (out of 9 month build) but still came home to sleep in our own beds 😁
