Window style

We’re replacing all our windows and I’m really stuck between upvc flush sash and casement (with dummy sash for equal sightlines), and would love some opinions! Although I think this will confuse me even more.

At the start I was completely set on flush sash because I love the more traditional look, but most of our quotes were around 25% more expensive, which made it hard to justify. We’ve now found a company we really like, and the difference is only £500 more in total for flush sash vs casement with dummy sash, which seems really reasonable so now I’m torn.

Most houses in our area have standard casement windows so I’m slightly worried they might look a bit out of place. That said, I do really like them, and I know £500 isn’t much in the grand scheme of things when we’ll have them for years.

This is also our first renovation, so I think I’m overthinking every decision! Would love to know what others chose and whether you’re happy with it. I’ve attached a photo of the state of our current windows, you can see they are in desperate need of changing!

I'm afraid I don't know the different between the 2 window options you are debating between. Are there any options to photoshop the 2 options onto a photo of your home so you can compare?

We recently renovated our 1930's home and went with black, aluminium window frames which are thin. I personally can't stand upvc because they look fat and plasticy and wouldn't have suited the age of our home. Maybe the options you are thinking about look better though?

I did think that! It’s hard to imagine without some images, I’ve used AI to generate some as best as it can. First image is flush and second one is standard casement but I don’t think AI has done a good job with that one as the frames would stick out ever so slightly more? The panels would also be completely different to what AI has generated.

It’s hard to actually even tell the difference in the uploaded images!

There’s a tiny difference between the two images
The right hand one shows a slight shadow at the grd fl opening window. The left doesnt

Id go for flush mounted top hung casement for the opening windows if you want upvc
Sash windows aren’t in period for your property

Ideally I’d go with @7238SM s suggestion. They've kept their window choice in keeping with the property 👍
