Will this go up my stairs??

I've put it into AI which says possibly but maybe not! I think it will but have an 'anything is possible' mindset, which doesn't always work 😂.

Stairs are straight up from the hallway with a 90 degree bend at the top. Stair width 88cm - ceiling height at lowest 187cm (top of first flight, this bookcase is going to the first floor). Width where the newel post is is 84cm.

Dimensions of bookcase H182 x W89 x D33cm.

In my mind it will come up sideways so the 33cm width up the 88cm stairs and then be moved sideways around the gap of 84cm where the newel post is.

Appreciate the height is tight at the top. Am I missing something?

I’m put in mind of a relative who had very low ceilings in the kitchen and ordered the biggest fridge freezer possible, with just 4-5 cm to spare between the top of the ff and the ceiling. In theory it should have fitted but, once tilted to get over the threshold, there wasn’t enough clearance to be able to tilt it back up to standing upright!
Do let us know how it goes though.

Should be fine, if you can put it upright to get it round the 90 degree angle

TeenToTwenties · 15/02/2026 11:09

I'd be worried, because if you have to angle it then the diagonal when you tip it is more than height.

It won’t need to be angled, the stair to ceiling height is consistently about 220cm on the way up, the shortest bit is on the landing at the top. I think I will order it. I’ve checked and JL charges £30 if they have to take it away again so worth a go. 🤞🏻

I must admit to having previous folks, had to get a carpenter in to take the stops out of a door frame to get something I had measured previously into a room. Cost a lot more than the £30 restocking fee.
