Hi all, I just think I need a reality check. We need a new boiler and have been quoted £1.5k for the boiler itself which seems reasonable. Then on top we've been quoted an extra 4.5K to fit it!!!! they need to do some minor work adjusting the flue. I'm flabbergasted. I'm I living in cloud cuckoo land? also, we are having our kitchen spruced up. in the main keeping the carcases and worktop, sink, ovens, hob. The doors are essentially being replaced, end panels on island and kick boards. The only tricky job is to move 3 wall cupboards into the utility room, replace them in kitchen. We've been quoted £1850 ex vat for fitting. The replacement doors etc are About£5500. am I out of touch...seems high. thoughts appreciated

We used boxed for our new boiler,it cost 2.5k including fitting,we only paid £1200 last year for someone to fit a whole new kitchen! You need to get some more quotes.

For the cost of cupboard doors I guess it depends on how many really, you might be having 20 fitted.

Sometimes ‘trades’ quote a high price when they are very busy and don’t really want the work. They think it’s better to put you off by quoting high than saying they don’t want to work for you.

as PP say, try some more people

I have 5 quotes for a large house: boiler, new pipe work throughout, new radiators and labour. They range from 16k-22k
