What is Worcester like?

There's a job prospect in Worcester and am just wondering if moving there is a good idea. Single, 33, no dependents. Don't have a car.
What is it like? Is it quiet? Or where to live if I want quieter places? Thanks!!

I believe it's similar to Felpersham, @enkelt2 . Smile

It's a city so you should be able to get around without a car. It's not a big city but it depends on how you'd define quiet.

The area around the city has flooded a lot over the last decade or so.

I work there and have friends who live there. It's a student city but also historic. Got better culturally so more events than there used to be. Cricket and horse racing and basketball sports wise. Not sure what's happened to the rubgy. Some lovely pubs and a decent high street still.

Not big but can go to Birmingham easily.

Id say it's not a bad place to live at all.

Flooding can be inconvenient but you get used to it.

Some nice walks along the river when it's not flooded! Malevrn hills nearby.

Yeah probably pretty decent place to live!

Oh and there are beryl bikes to get around on!

It’s a really nice small city. Plenty to do, reasonable transport links (trains to Birmingham, London, Bristol). Pretty friendly.

(Assuming the poster above lives near to me - I’m in DY12 😂)

I live nearby. It’s ok. Safer than large cities, quite pretty and enough to do. Unless you live in the city centre you’ll be reliant on buses.

Easy access to M5. Good rail links to London and Birmingham. Beryl bikes. Riverside walks with swan sanctuary. Theatres, beer festival, arts festival. Worcester is usually voted one of the happiest places to live in the UK. Somewhere quiet on a bus route to Worcester would be: Bevere, parts of St John's. Fernhill Heath. There's lots of quieter residential areas. Northwick and Barbourne are quieter and walkable to the town.

I like Worcester. A nice size, some good shopping, good access to Malvern (theatre) and Birmingham (when the trains are running). Liable to flooding though so choose area carefully.
(I don't live there but I've been a few times recently)
