New bathroom with shower curtain?

We are re-doing our bathroom, it is small so will be a shower over the bath setup. These days the default for this seems to be a glass shower screen along half of the bath, but I'm thinking an old school shower curtain along the bath would work so much better for us. It's what we currently have.

We only have one bathroom and it gets busy in the morning, so with a shower curtain one person can shower in relative privacy, while someone else is brushing their teeth, brushing hair etc.

Also I used to live somewhere with a glass screen and it was a right pain to keep clean.

Has anyone else kept the shower curtain when doing a new bathroom?
Is it still a normal thing to do?

I’m In London too and we just go over the screen (and tiles) with a plastic squeegee straighter after our showers. No problems with it getting limescaly at all (my black shower fittings are another story altogether!)

Go for it! Our house has a glass screen which we inherited when we moved in, but I’m not keen, I feel a) if it moves the floor gets wetter quicker b) it is indeed a pain to keep clean c) my small daughter pushes it and likes to smear bubbles on it when she’s in the bath - I’m terrified of it breaking which I know they are designed to be safe but just turned 4yr olds don’t realise sometimes they have the strength of 10 men 🤣 (yes I’m always there with her to stop her but still…… they are unpredictable creatures small children)
in a previous property I used to always buy fairly cheap and plain curtains and just replace them really regularly so they were always nice and fresh and I loved it!

I've recently swapped out my shower over the bath with a rail and curtain for a walk in shower. The final straw was when I slipped in it, again, grabbed the curtain out of instinct, the curtain rail fell, bashed my head, I fell with the curtain wrapped around my head and I thought 'oh, so this is how I die'.

The walk in shower has glass screens (and grab rails on the walls!). Easy to keep clean with a window vacuum. I got a cheap one online, not a Karcher, but use it every time and the glass is streak free.

Interesting mix of opinions, thank you!

I have to say, like others, the shower curtain has never stuck to me in the shower. I think this might be a myth made up by shower screen manufacturers 😂.

We regularly use the bath, and the great thing about the curtain is that it can be completely tucked out of the way so the bath is easily accessible along it's whole length.

I'm in a rush in the morning, I've definitely not time to arse around cleaning the shower screen every single time I use the shower.

But I accept now that some people will judge me for having a curtain.
As always, people are different!

I'm sure it'll look great with the curtain, but my squeegee takes about 10 secs. I'm ALWAYS in a rush!

Shower curtain here too. I can change it when I'm fed up with it or it's got too dirty plus if I'm having a bath in the summer I can use it as a sunshade as I dont have a blind.

For those with curtains around their bath- a question I've always wondered:

-Does the curtain sit inside the bath so splashes run back into the bath but the base of the curtain gets wet in the bath OR

-Does the curtain sit outside the bath so splashes run onto the floor? 🤔

The curtain is inside the bath when you shower and outside when you have a bath.

Clingy horrible curtain! Yuk. I’d never double up in a bathroom anyway.

We have a shower screen on hinges that allow it to fold completely flat against the wall, under the shower head (had to plan the height of the shower head to allow for this) so totally out of the way for baths.

Thank you for clarifying.

I used to have a curtain and now have a screen. The screen has to be cleaned and makes cleaning the bath and taps awkward. I preferred a curtain and am thinking about putting one inside the screen so I don't have to squeegee the screen after every shower. A curtain is also fairly cheap and easy to replace if it gets tatty or you just fancy a change of decor.

If the curtain is the right material and weighted, it doesn't cling.

I got rid of our screen because I couldn't stand cleaning the damn thing. Switched to shower curtains which are much easier to bung in the washing machine. They're weighted so you don't get the clinginess of the past.

Was it easy to get rid of the screen? Did it mean any re-tiling or other work?

No. It was attached to a metal post thing it slotted into. I'll confess that that is still there as must have been super glued on but, in theory, would just be screw holes in tiles. Ours are white so I would have filled them so, I suppose, depends on your tiles.
