I would like something similar to this but freestanding.

Has anyone either used this company or have other recommendations?

I think they look great but don’t know anyone who has one - I’d also be interested to hear

I have one and I love it!
Mine is a brand called Proteus and I bought it from the Range. It looks super smart and is much admired and it really does the job of providing a nice shady seating area in the summer. We got new sofa style patio furniture and an outdoor rug to go with it and I love it. It has adjustable slats and a system for draining water away down the legs. We assembled it ourselves but it was a hell of a job and DH is very canny with that kind of stuff. If he wasn’t I’d definitely pay for assembly

I tried to find a picture but I seem to have only taken ones of the furniture under the pergola and not the actual structure but maybe you can get the general
idea. The aluminium goes with the door and window frames of the house so a lot of people think it is built in but it’s actually freestanding bolted to the patio.

Several neighbours have them varying from basic (just slats) to all the bells & whistles (blinds, lights, heating etc).
Quality & cost varies considerably so make sure you are not comparing apples & pears.
One got the slat position wrong in snow a couple of years ago and the slats collapsed. Expensive lesson.

Have you looked at a veranda, genuine all weather protection?

I dont want it near the house. The top of the garden is the sunny spot. I have seen a difference in the thickness of the frame

I was / am tempted by this one.
Can you tell me if It definitely doesn't let rain in when closed.

And does it bolt into tiles if so how / where does the water go via the legs ? I assume it would just trickle off the tiles ?
Or do you fix it in the ground ?
Thanks for any info.

It definitely doesn’t let any rain in at all with the slats closed
the legs are hollow and the water drains down them and away. We certainly never have big puddles on the patio or water stuck on the closed roof
the legs are bolted to the patio slabs (you need a big masonry bit to make holes for the bolts)

Thanks for info very helpfull.
Im just trying to figure out how much space you need at sides
so i have enough room to mend / replace my fence if required, as neighbour has built a wooden one with that clesr plastic type material ( cant recall name) for a roof and on both sides so if I put mine up near my fence i wouldnt be able repair fence if needed.
Im just thinking if he had to replace the plastic panel ( near my fence) he would not be able to do from his side so he would will ask me for access.
They are very nice but feel he should of thought of that before putting it so close to my fence lol .
