Picked a floor I don’t like in a hurry

Can someone console me. It’s just for a little shower room in my refurb. I felt hustled to choose by our bathroom guy (tbf I’d put off the decision) and picked something (a shade of LVT) I don’t like. I haven’t dared go to look but it’ll be in now. How can I think about it positively? They’d wanted to do a wood effect but I changed it to a grey speckle look that I now realise is going to look like a corporate toilet. I like the other things in there.

First off, have a look, you might like it in situ more than you think. How tight is your budget? If you hate it we all make mistakes and if you go for a regular Lino, of which there are loads of lovely options, it could be quite cheap to replace in a small space. Is there still someone working in the property who could fit it. I happen to have spent the last two days checking out Lino for my intended very small on a small budget bathroom refurb, and found some really nice stuff that would come in at under £200.

That’s a good idea. I don’t know why I didn’t properly look when I had time. It’s part of a much bigger refurb so maybe I can see it as a placeholder and resist it once the house is done.

It’s annoying when this happens, I have similar frustrations with the tiles I chose in a en suite.

Depending upon the size of the bathroom a large rug or bath mat as a short term solution maybe good? I know I sound incredibly dull but there were some really quite interesting ones when I was looking for them after Xmas!

Agree with others it is probably not as bad as you are making it in your head. Everything the thoughts do a loop in your head the flooring is becoming more and more hideous.

When in reality it is just a nondescript floor for a small room that you won’t even notice. It won’t look commercial as the rest of the room won’t look commercial.

Put either a colourful or wooden shower mat down which will soften it further.

Post a link to the floor, your bathroom tiles, colours etc and we can reassure you.

If it helps I regret my flooring in my entire downs stair open plan kitchen dining area which also follows through to the hallway. Doesn’t help that I can feel underfoot that some areas are not completely level.
I think I’d reached decision fatigue with our whole house renovation.

ChersHandbag · 18/01/2026 08:51

What’s the flooring like, @Livelovelaughfuckoff?

Yes, I think it’s just decision fatigue and overwhelm. I hadn’t really understood that I could choose what I wanted for the bathroom and get someone to fit it, so got constrained to the choices of the bathroom people associated with my reno company. You live and learn. There are just too many choices, and none of them the perfect options because of budget.

We decided we hated the lino we put down in our refurbished kitchen diner so after living with it for a few years we bit the bullet and replaced it with LVT flooring. We are much happier with it now. On the other hand, as a temporary measure for the downstairs loo, we bought an off-cut of some lino, which we quite liked, very cheaply. Husband fitted it and the plan was to get something better later. We've decided we like it like that and now have no plans to change it.

Decision fatigue is real. I made a few dumb decisions in our master bathroom that means in a few years I will need to look at getting the sinks replaced (they’re poorly fitted as well as too big for the room). I really could have done with a designer to make a bunch of decisions for me (I’m not able to afford anything like that, but in a dream world).

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 18/01/2026 10:02

It’s LVT and a very pale grey stone effect. Objectively it looks lovely and I did like it initially. But in reality it needs hoovering a mopping daily to look good as it shows up any and every mark. I also decided not to go with grout lines and that feels like a mistake too. Our hallway is very dark so I prioritised going for something that would help keep it feeling light.

ChersHandbag · 18/01/2026 10:38

I’ve made almost the identical choice to you.

I’m really sure the decision is not as bad as you think it is.

Post a link and some ideas for the room to get a more balanced option.

ChersHandbag · 18/01/2026 11:03

Thanks. I don’t want to post pics as it’s done now. It’s more the feeling that I was looking for help with. I am a FTB and lone parent with no family— accidentally waded into a large project and making mistakes.

I regret basically every decision I make at first then in time come to like it! I’m sure whatever it is can be styled in a way that looks good
