Twenty year kitchen

Where can I buy a good quality kitchen that will last twenty years? And what is the best material for the doors? We have a 15 year old IKEA painted wood kitchen but the trim is looking yellow and the doors are quite bashed. We have a bit more money to spend this time around and we never plan to move, so long-lasting is a priority. We can hopefully reuse our existing granite counters. All tips welcome, thanks.

Don't know. Probably not MDF doors, solid wood.

The wrap always peels/the doors get swollen from water ingress.

Also what I would do is get spares of the door sizes. That way if a door breaks you can replace it with an identical one rather than having to redo the whole lot.

The area around the sink and the dishwasher are both prone to water damage.

DIY Kitchens - really good quality, ours is 10yrs old so far and still really good condition.

Would also recommend DIY. We have wooden painted doors and they are fantastic. (We enjoyed designing ours, but there are some reasonably priced designers you can work with to get the best out of everything)

The shaker style never goes out of style and solid wood is probably best and can be painted or repainted and updated with new handles easily.

I've had my DeVol kitchen for 17 years and still love it

If the carcasses and layout is fine- then look at just replacing the doors. We did this in a previous property and changed the door style and got different handles. Everyone one assumed we'd had a whole, new kitchen.

Thank you.

I should have said I'd like to use a company that will plan a really efficient layout because it's a very small kitchen (U shaped layout, with only about 5 x 60cm units + dishwasher, oven and fridge.

We used the IKEA software ourselves last time and it was ok but I feel things could be done better.

My SieMatic kitchen is 13 years old this year & does not look it. SieMatic’s research shows that people tend to replace their kitchen every 8-15 years but the average replacement time of theirs is 25 years. German design, built to last.

I use DIY Kitchens for my rental properties and they last about 20-25 years. I’ve got one that I installed into a rental property back in 2002 and it’s still going strong today!

I would avoid B&Q and Wickes - they don’t last long! 10-15 years max.

I installed a Howdens kitchen into my own home when I renovated it last year - spent a significant amount on it so I’m hoping we will never have to replace!

The kitchen that we ripped out was installed in 1987 and considering the age it wasn’t too bad (we only know the date cos it was written on the wall behind the cabinet)
