Wonkey outside lights

I have an artificial stone cottage and have just had an outside light changed. The electrician supplied and fitted a new light. Unlike the last one due to the size of the back plate ot leans back slightly and doesn't sit flush.

He said it was the best he could do due to the length of the cable and light design.

Is there anything I can do. Disappointed as it was quite expensive

You’d have to post a photo if you want meaningful advice

As above, a photo would help but if it is stone then I presume the surface is not flat (as it would be with brick)?
You also say the back-plate is larger which will make the situation worse.

Where we are many of the houses are stone and while the (developer provided) porch lights are level, the aftermarket Ring doorbells and additional lights are often at weird angles.

Three options.

  1. Replace the light for one with a smaller mounting plate.
  2. Build a raised, flat surface to mount the light on.
  3. Level the stone behind the light (no going back with that one!).
