Kitchen under counter shelves

I have moved my washing machine to a utility room and now have a gap under my worktop in the kitchen. I have around 40 recipe books which are currently in my lounge. I was thinking of moving them into the kitchen. The idea is for some under counter shelves where the washing machine used to be.

Where can I buy a under counter kitchen unit with open bookshelf style to slot under so it looks by built in under the unit. All the kitchen place seems to only sell cupboards

Wouldn’t the books be right back against the wall though? You’d have to crawl under to find the book you want!

I’d use the space for another cupboard and put books on a shelf on the wall (if you have the space)

I’d get a local carpenter to knock up a bookshelf (or see if IKEA do one the right size) which can sit in the front section to house your books… but I’d definitely take the opportunity to turn the rear of the space into some kind of secret storage, accessed via the bookshelves. A carpenter would help with that.

Is there a base unit to either side?

If so, you just need a false back fitting to prevent the space being too deep, shelving & base put across the front and of course a plinth to match.

Once you have identified the correct colour of the existing units and sourced similar panels, any competent handyman should be able to create what you want.
My OH did something similar for an odd sized gap in our old kitchen, ended up being a really useful storage area and looked part of the original design.

I love the idea of secret storage. A place to hide my chocolate
