A thread to share the things big and small that you've started, finished, planned or conceptualised.

Inspired by the lovely posters on the What have you done in the garden today threads.

Yes I think it's the multi surface paint, it's a primer, paint and topcoat all in one.

This is the only photo I've got of the valspar coverage on the kitchen cupboard doors. I will admit I didn't have the highest of hopes for it but it has exceeded my expectations for colour match and longevity.

Our caravan had really old and tired cupboard doors. I did use heat moldable vinyl on the cupboards in the other living spaces which has held up well but I wish I'd not gone through all that effort after doing the kitchen with this because it took a lot less time and effort and the finish is still really good, whereas the kids with a tendency to pick have started picking the edges back up on places like the toy cupboards and bedroom cupboards. Hundreds of pounds of hard work undone within a few visits, so was not the right choice for us to re-vinyl.

Did my first round of cutting in which I should have done before I put emulsion on, but seen as it is all white for now I didn't really think it mattered so much. Used the primer though so will need to do another round of cutting in with the emulsion on Thursday and one final coat of emulsion on all of the walls.

Has anybody ever used wickes own interior wall paint? I've seen a colour I really like, but as a dulux and crown loyal user I feel like it might be a bit out of my comfort zone after needing 4-5 coats of non-dulux-or-crown pure brilliant white.

Does ordering paint from my holiday sunbed count ?😂

mumofoneAloneandwell · 09/06/2026 13:58

Placemarking. I WILL paint my living room ceiling.

Ancient artefact by dulux.

Holding you to account for this. Failure to adhere to discussed plans will get you put on a performance action plan which will stay on your file for 6 months. 😋

I made a lid for the water butt... From a large tin can of olive oil. Who needs tin snips when you can use scissors?

Tbc on how it'll blow off hold up.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 11/06/2026 10:40

Another round of cutting in today and another coat on the walls needed and then probably 3 more rounds of cutting in.

Had a few days off to go get another diagnosis and be my sons 1:1 on a school trip so was hoping after the paint had chance to really dry it would be a lot more opaque than this.

When this room is done only 4 more rooms to go...

I will not be using the Leyland emulsion ever again.

I’ve painted so stripes on my son’s bedroom wall. Unfortunately when I took the masking tape off it’s taken two chunks of the white original wall paint off. Need to sort tomorrow when the stripes are properly dry. It will look good in the end I hope 🤞

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 11/06/2026 16:40

This is what im worried about when I tape up to put the feature wall blue on, but I've been heartily reassured by a few people that frog tape is the stuff I need if I am putting it on already painted areas.

Trusting the process though so I'll have to let you know if it works.

We usually swear by frog tape @Jimmyneutronsforehead, but at the weekend DH used some to mask off where he was eggshelling a door frame and it bled through unfortunately 😪 Hope it was just a glitch and you won't have the same issue!

We've both been working on the hall, stairs and landing and it's almost there now. I did loads of painstaking prep, scraping off gloss paint found beneath the wallpaper which took days.

I just need to paint my mural and finish the floor now, but couldn't resist getting the blind I made up a couple of days ago!

We had frog tape drama, when purchasing frog tape.

DP went to B&Q and I told him to get frog tape, FIL said to him why are you getting frog tape just get own brand painters tape and DP said no, Jimmy said frog tape, I need to get frog tape, I don't know why but I just better do as I'm told and get frog tape.

Anyway, he did get frog tape, but he got the yellow one for soft furnishings and soft surfaces. Knowing we were painting walls. He got the eye daggers but in the interest of making DS his dream bedroom I remained open minded.

I have used that round the windows and DP assured me all will be fine, but I've lifted some of it off to check and it's really not fine.

He has since tucked tail and bought some proper green frog tape which is what I'm hoping will do the job when it comes to the feature wall though.

I am just flustered today that nothing seems to be going right, we're on week 2 of doing up 1 room which to me is ridiculous, it's never taken this long to do a room, but the walls were in a terrible state and a lot of the hard work is the unseen work now. I just can't face another layer of white emulsion or cutting in just yet so I'm going to have a few days off painting.

I've also got to remove the paint from the sockets I've haphazardly slap dashed whilst painting with my spectacles off and a tremor in my arm.

I have definitely learned my lesson though. Make sure we always have green frog tape, never use Leyland again, buy a better extendable roller that doesn't untwist when you're using it, skim over all the other bits in the house that the housing association have done a botched job of plastering before mist coating and painting, and assume that where ever there is wallpaper there is a nasty surprise being hidden behind it and come prepared.

I used frog tape. I think there is a low tack variety (think it’s yellow but might have made that up) I’m about to try and sort so will update!

ToadRage · 12/06/2026 12:24

My husband built me a laundry chute, I am disabled and struggle to carry things down the stairs safely so I now have a little door on the bedroom wall, we put the washing in there, it goes down a tube and lands in the laundry basket in the kitchen. He has built me two decks in the garden, a roof over our hot tub with a view to extending it over the top deck this summer. He attempted to plaster our lounge after a 3 day course, when we got it redone professionally our plasterer told me not to let him do it ever again.

troppibambini6 · 12/06/2026 15:47

Think I’ve managed to sort it…. I don’t think you can spot it now. I’ve sanded it and re painted it’s not perfect but will do.
I watched something that said to do a base coat of the original wall colour over the top of the masking tape to help get cleaner lines so maybe that helped.

troppibambini6 · 12/06/2026 15:49

Photo would help!

This weekends project is repointing the patio. Not something I’ve done before but I’ve watched a video and it looks ok. I need to remove the existing grout (or whatever it’s called) I’ve just done a trial run with a hammer and a wall paper scraper 🤣 and it wasn’t too bad. Off to buy a chisel tomorrow.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 13/06/2026 18:43

Done ANOTHER coat of emulsion and cutting in today and the magnolia persists. At this rate it would have been faster to knock plasterboards off and start right from the beginning.

After 16 months without any proper work surfaces, having relocated the kitchen, DH and I finally began fitting our new iroko worktops over the weekend. Lots of osmo oil applied (me) and careful cutting involved (DH) and they're looking lovely!

Next up we need to get the plumbing to the new sink/tap/dishwasher and then the final piece of iroko fitted...hopefully next weekend 🤞
