Quarry tiles floor - what colour of walls, stairs, doors etc?

My floor in the basement / lower ground floor corridor looks like on the first photo. The stairs and skirting are painted dark red, and the walls are yellowish beige. It all looks a bit tired and gloomy, so I would like to repaint it, but I am not sure which colour scheme to choose. The doors lead to various utility spaces (boiler room, laundry, boot room). These rooms have patterned cement tiles with shades of blue, grey and green and the walls are currently emerald green at the bottom, and cream tiles above the dado rail, but I think I will change the green to grey - so a grey/blue colour scheme would work altogether.

I found photos of an old kitchen with the floor like mine. Depending on the light the walls seem more blue, or grey. Which one would you choose? Or would everything just look best white?

I am also considering a wallpaper on the staircase wall, and the rest painted. It would be visible upstairs when the door is open. I like the one attached for example. If I chose that, would the stairs and rest of the woodwork be better white, or grey? For context, all woodwork in the house is off white, but I don’t mind changing it in this area.

I'd consider painting the woodwork in some sort of "black". I think you have a lot of colours to tie together and white might emphasise the difference where black might pull it together more. Maybe? I'm not expert 😀

For the wall, if you paint rather than paper, maybe a really pale pink to not clash with any of the other colours.

Thank you @SwedishEdith. Black or very dark grey is definitely an option because of exactly what you have pointed out. I painted stairs in the attic F&B Railings and I could use it here too. Not sure about such dark doors though, especially if the walls are a pale colour? Tailor Tack could be an option, if it doesn’t look beige which I don’t want to repeat. I could get a sample to try.

I have the same issue with white here as you. While it will look great it the laundry/boot room, with white cupboards and these patterned tiles, it will not work well with the red and beigy yellow…

I go round in circles with paint colours and make mistakes. I did, however, actually chat to the staff in both F&B and Little Greene showrooms and showed some photos of my room and it did help focus my thinking. Still to decide but I'm clearer on what won't work now 😀. So, if you can, it's worth discussing in a showroom. No pressure to buy any paint from either.

It sounds like a good idea! I’m. I’m not in the UK though, and I don’t know if staff here have much qualifications for this sort of guidance. In one F&B shop definitely not, it’s just your normal paint guy selling it. I am not sure we have Little Greene here.

That's a shame about not having a helpful showroom. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge than me might come along soon.
