bathroom layout advice

Hello! I'm planning a loft conversion and would love some feedback on the bathroom layout. the below is what I've come up with the window and door position cant be changed. The roof wont be sloping - it will be a normal height flat ceiling.
Does it look like enough space between the loo and basin? 75cm currently
Do the shower screen and opening proportions look ok and practical?
Would it be better to swap toilet and basin positions?
Any advice appreciated!!

Personally I'd prefer more space around the wc - so I'd swap that with the basin. It's surprising how much elbow room you need to feel comfortable. More so if you are slightly larger or, say, pregnant.

Have the door hung the other way so it opens into the room, put the toilet behind the door for privacy and the basin where the toilet is now.

Also have the toilet on the same wall as the door facing into the room.

Ideally I would swap the loo and sink and make the loo face the shower (so back is against the wall with the door) as a pp said.

However- your soil pipe location and joist direction will make some loo positions much easier than others. It may be a pain to put the loo on an internal wall for example. Do you know where the soil pipe will be?

I agree with this.

Toilet where you've got the sink and positioned so that when you're sitting on it, you're facing the shower door. And yes to having the door hinged the other way round.

Agree with previous advice. Someone told me you don’t want to be looking at the toilet if the door to the bathroom is open, much nicer to see the basin instead.

UniDaysAcoming · 04/01/2026 09:07

Yes, and if someone opens it by mistake when someone is on it - it's easy to push the door shut and stay private.

Think about your towel rail also - how big, gas/electric/both, where will will you put it and what clearance does it need.

Put the controls for the shower facing the shower door and not underneath the shower head so that you can switch it on without standing under it & getting wet.

Ok seems unanimous that the toilet and basin should be switched! My only concern is that the wall with the door doesn’t have much space

144cm - door 68.6cm (if we go for a slightly smaller than standard door) - architrave 10cm (estimating 5cm on each side) = 65.4cm left

does that sounds ok?
