Conservatory extension with missing

Hard to explain but see pic (below), lovely houses near me but looks like they’ve added a conservatory to living room but removed the doors/wall separating the spaces. Must be freezing!

Is this fixable? Am assuming you can build a stud wall with a door and re-instate the two rooms? Anyone done this and has an idea of cost?

thanks

You don’t have to have dividing walls depending on the construction to comply with building regs and based on this photo it’s likely got central heating - maybe even under floor so I don’t see the need to add the wall back in

Yes noticed there was a radiator so wondered if it was part of the original house design, as next door neighbour has the same. But with a glass roof surely it’s too cold to live in comfortably?

Isn’t there glass that retains heat?

WhatMe123 · 27/12/2025 21:41

It will still be freezing in winter as all the heat will simply go out the windows and it'll be super hot in summer. Speaking from experience. It's likely to also need building regulations if it has its own heating source and there's no way of shutting it off from the man house so it's not energy efficient. Most conservatories however don't get building regs signed off so if you're looking to buy this house you'll probably find there's a problem there.

It’s not a conservatory, it’s a glazed extension?

Well insulated walls and high U value, heat reflective glazing might mean it’s not boiling in summer/cold in winter.

All the houses in this development have the same design so no walls have been knocked down?

I agree the pics looks like an extension, not a conservatory stuck on the side! We added a conservatory to a previous house to make a larger kitchen/diner and didn't want a door. We tried 4 companies who all said they'd never installed one without a door between the main house and conservatory. We did get it done though, but as said, the pics looks far more like an extension. We had radiators installed in it too.

Can it be fixed You could add a stud wall with additional insulation between but it would make the room behind darker and block any garden view. I wouldn't consider this a fix, but a mistake and possibly reduce a future re sell value. Is this a house you are wanting to buy? Why not live in it first to see how it is?
