Acoustic curtains for soundproofing

I am living next to a busy road. Does anyone use acoustic curtains - do they work? Any recommendations or advice for choosing effective ones?
Thank you

I havent got curtains but I did change my glazing to acoustic glazing in one bedroom. It comes in 3 thicknesses and I went for the middle option. It hasn’t irradiated noise but it certainly takes the edge off.

Thank you, I hadn't heard of that! It's not feasible to have windows replaced but if I ever do will bear this in mind. Thank you.

What sort of windows do you have ?

Some trickle vents can be noisy, but youtube can show you some ways to reduce the sound.

Double glazed PVC and I hadn't thought to check the trickle vents but they are closed. Testing them out now it doesn't seem to make any difference to the noise. Will have a look at youtube - hadn't thought to do that either. Thanks

You don’t need the windows replaced, just the glass inside them. It cost about £180 per pane. We don’t have trickle vents though which does help with noise. We had them in our old house and put putty in the vent to seal th shut which helped quite a bit.

Yes, acoustic curtains do help, but they won’t block all noise. They mainly reduce traffic sound and make rooms quieter.
Choose thick, heavy curtains with acoustic lining, make sure they cover the window fully and reach the floor. For best results, use them with good window sealing or double glazing.
