Letter from movers... but house isn't on the market

We've received a letter from a moving company, addressed to a (slightly mangled) version of our name and at our address. It congratulates us on being "under offer" and offers their services.

Our house isn't for sale.

This has freaked me out somewhat. Could there be a scam attached to this, or is it just some random marketing?

We had one so I phoned the company.
The receptionist told me it was a marketing letter and to ignore it if it didn’t apply.

Just put it in the bin! Why freak out at a piece of junk mail? What could possibly happen?

PollyBell · 11/12/2025 22:57

its for marketing why on earth would you freak out over it?

mellicauli · 11/12/2025 23:33

Maybe put an alert on your address at the land registry just in case (it's free and will tell you if there are transactions on your property),

No scam just a rubbish attempt at targeted marketing, put it in the bin and move on.

Thanks all. “Freak out” was probably an overstatement. We rarely get junk mail as we aren’t on the open electoral register and are signed up to the mailing preference service so the fact that it was addressed to us rather than “the owner” was strange.

As @mellicauli says, put an alert on your home with the LR. It's free. For good measure add another 9 properties. We keep a watch on all our previous homes!
