We have a clearly visible door and ring doorbell. Our front door is pretty level path leading up and we have a long drive down the side of the house.
We have a bathroom on each floor (three floors) we have a lounge on two floors. We aim to use the stairs as long as possible. Having lived in a bungalow I believe in bungalow legs and it was painful when we got our house for the first 2 months.

Walk every day and t chi every day. Allotment etc is within walking distance.

Our Entire ground floor has a a bedroom, lounge, kitchen and utility and bathroom so we could live on one floor. We have double patio doors that go out onto level decking.

I like the idea of grab towels rails though might be useful

When I moved into my ground floor flat I had the bath taken out and a walk in shower and grab rails put in. After 2 spinal ops 2 hip replacements and awaiting a knee replacement I haven’t been able to use a bath for years sadly. Does anyone have a recommendation for a comfort height toilet?

I specifically moved to a bungalow to future proof myself.

Whilst I am renovating we still have the elderly lady's shower and it's a revelation (I have a historically weak ankle) so I'm getting a non slip shower tray and a nicer grab rail.

I'm decluttering so there is much less stuff to look after, keep clean or get in the way. Then when it's all done and decorated it should be easy to keep on top off.

When I do the garden I'm thinking of a ramp and grab rails on the steps.

My parents are in their 70s now, but back in their 50s, my mom had the great idea to future-proof the house after seeing what friends and family had gone through. She asked my siblings to figure out what could be done and make it happen. These upgrades will definitely benefit my siblings, now in their 30s and living with our parents, as they get older.

It cost a fair bit, but the work was spread out over several years instead of all at once. The house is a large, old farmhouse from the 1700s, so everything had to stay within budget and meet structural requirements, with approval from the right authorities. They added ramps, grab rails, wider doorways, zero-step entries, and made changes to minimize trip and slip hazards, along with wheelchair-friendly and mobility-related adjustments. There’s also a downstairs wet room, a living room that can double as a bedroom, and a kitchen designed for convenience—everything aimed at making single-level living possible. My parents enjoy their tech gadgets and the perks of reliable Wi-Fi, but they know things can go wrong and just hope it doesn’t happen when they need it most.
