Smelly wee smell in toilet in our new house

We’re due to move in in a couple of weeks and the toilet stinks of wee, granted it needs a proper clean as tradespeople have been in and out but the smell was there before. Thing is there isn’t any wee spilt anywhere that I can see, do you think if I sprinkled bicarbonate all over the bathroom floor it would help remove the odour ? We thought it was the floor but that’s been ripped up now and it’s still there

I think I read that spraying shaving foam on it and leaving it for a bit can remove the odour. Or you can get specialist products from pet shops aimed at removing dog and cat wee smells.

Is this a small down stairs loo?
Have the skirting boards and/or floor boards been replaced?
The loo seat been replaced?

If not I'd start with a deep clean, and checking anything wooden.

Yes Bicarb is good for this according to my ex-carer DSis. Sprinkle and leave at least overnight or make up a paste and apply heavily.
My vet told me to wash floors with biological washing powder when one of our cats was ill and having accidents. Something to do with the enzymes. By

Thank you for the tips. It’s not a downstairs loo, it’s upstairs as our toilet is separate to the bathroom, and it’s very tiny. It just smells like old stale urine, not nice at all

No it had Lino in there but we’ve since ripped it up so now it’s just the floorboards but it’s still there

If it had lino then it's probably got underneath it and soaked into the wood.

I would get the pet stuff and douse it in it and leave to dry

It likely is in the floor boards then.
It treat it as you and other have suggested by liberally sprinkling with bicarb and leaving overnight, then hoovering the next day
You might need to do this a couple of times
I think white vinegar and water spray helps too ?
Maybe try the baking soda 2-3 times, then try something else if it hasn't worked fully.

I think the seat would probably need replacing as well. Plastic or wood, it might hold the smell.

Having had dogs all my life, the only action that will have any real effect is using biological washing powder. The enzymes in the powder will kill the urine that’s causing the smell. Bicarbonate of soda or vinegar will have a minimal effect only.

Make up a strong mixture of biological powder (cheap brands are ok) with warm, not hot water and scrub it into the floorboards and skirting. Leave it to soak in for around 12 hours. Repeat 2 or 3 times if there’s still a smell. Use a dehumidifier afterwards to help dry it out.

This method will work only if the enzymes can get to the urine deposits. If this can’t happen then replacing the floorboards/skirting will be needed.

I've found that bio wash powder is better than much more expensive pet shop products. Just watch what any carpets are made of before treating if applicable.
