Sanding floors advice needed as newbies to this . We’ve moved into a house that’s about 70 yrs old and has really good floors but they need sanding . However we want thrm to stay light and not go orangey . What shall we use on them after sanding ?

Hire proper belt sanders from Travis Perkins or similar, you need two, one for the main floor and one for the edging & corners.
Use a dust extractor if you can & sheet / tape it all up.
Watch some YouTube videos on how to use them.

Osmo floor oil is pretty good.

The finish is all in the preparation.

Assume the boards are pine
Avoid Varnishes and waxes, it’s these finishes that cause that orange/yellow look over time

Keep to water based finishes
eg Try the company ‘Bona’

We’ve used it before

If the floorboards are pine they will go a bit orange left to their own devices after varnish / wax , especially where the sun hits them. ( From experience. ) I would say if you find a way of putting a dilute pale stain evenly across them before you apply whatever finish you are using that might help.

Osmo polyx oil

Osmo “raw” oil keeps the colour more like fresh untreated wood and is a very strong finish

Osmo oil.

id just clean the boards first with sugar soap. Be careful sanding them as they can quickly become too thin. If you really need to then just do the patches required

This is exactly what we did in our current and last house and the floors have come up perfectly.
