White Render - what colour windows?

Our house is a 1930’s art deco house. After much deliberation we’ve nailed the floor plan but now struggling with finalising the exterior. The property is known as the White House so I suspect the white render will have to stay to satisfy the planning authorities. It currently has a green roof and green crittal windows although they look like they’ve faded to a light grey over time as they’ve never been replaced. We are looking to change the roof colour and also the windows to modernise it. Please can you help with suggestions? If you have white render- please share photos of your windows if you can 😊 Thank you.

@senuawe have lots of greenery at the front of the house including a laurel and magnolia so that will hopefully break it up.

@GeneticsbunnyI agree and wouldn’t want a true grey if we went for grey, it would have to be a more of a grey toned cream- suppose a stone colour. It’s proving quite difficult to find a similar coloured property online.😬

I’d go with white. It will never date or be out of fashion

@senuaI have tried looking for old photos of the house but can’t seem to find anything prior to 2013. The house has been recognised by things like wow haus in the past so I’m wary of ruining the house but do need to improve it. I have contacted a local historian as apparently the house was built as a wedding gift for a local business person’s daughter. Will see if I get anything back!

I had a very similar house. It was built in 1936 and was originally a pair of maisonettes. It got its name from the distinctive green roof which was used as a waypoint for returning aircraft during the war. The new owners replaced the roof and turned the place into a New England style house. It looks lovely, but the history has gone and everyone was/is upset about the roof. You can import new glazed tiles from Holland and I would think it would be totally worth doing to keep the Art Deco vibe.
For the windows, I suggest a Willow Green type colour. When I bought my latest house, the UPVC windows are a pale green/grey and all the others in the street are white. I think my house looks lovely, doesn’t stand out too much and looks more characterful and less ‘new boxy’.
Good luck, you have a lovely, unusual property and it is worth preserving its charm and character.
