Electric showers

The only time I've used an electric shower is in an old boyfriends house many, many years ago. It was not very powerful and made an annoying hum!

Are modern electric showers any good, and what factors influence shower pressure?

We're going to add a downstairs bathroom in an extension and I just wondered if an electric shower (which will be used infrequently) might be a good idea rather than one heated via the combi boiler. Just means we can still shower if we ever had boiler issues.

They aren't great, expensive to use and can be variable in output water stream quality. Can be hard to fit if you don't have wiring with adequate power to the bathroom. Good news is they are relatively cheap to replace.

I get it though if you have a combi boiler, it is worthwhile having the backup in case the boiler breaks down.

If you have a system boiler with an immersion heater (most hot water tanks do) then that should provide adequate backup if you maintain it.

I've done this! We have a back up electric shower just in case there are boiler issues. It's ok. Not as good as the direct one but it's a just in case shower!

My mums one is fine. They had to have it due to water pressure they said when did the wet room. I have one in the flat i’m currently renting and it’s good. No issues (been here 3yrs).
