Hi,

I’m wondering if anyone can help me. My youngest son has been offered an apprenticeship in London starting in September 2026. It’s at Deloitte and the offices are in New street Square.
We live in the North West and don’t know where to start when it comes to accommodation. Ideally I’d like him to be somewhere safe with all bills included and for around £1200 a month and easily commutable. We’d be happy to pay up to £500 more a month if it was perfect as we only want him there short term while he settles into his job and hopefully makes friends.
I think starting a new job aswell as running a household and bills will be too much for him initially so we were looking at The Collective Old Oak.

Does anyone have any experiences or advice?

It might be worth at look at these as a short term option @TinyDancer78

Friendship House in Southwark (SE1) would be a quite pleasant walk to work for him across the millennium bridge and past St Paul’s. There are worse ways to start your working day. Actually when I started my first job in London I used to have to walk to work across London Bridge with that stunning view of the Thames to Tower Bridge and years later that same view still moves me emotionally. No matter how much living/working in London stresses you out, those moments when you suddenly look around and think “OMG this is London” make it all worthwhile.

(Note: I’m originally from the North West and moved to London for my first job which was with the Big Four so trust me, I get it).

Edited

Something like this to start.
Sign the minimum eg 3 months so if he finds out other apprentices interested in flat share later he can move.
It s very common for young people to move around loads in london first few years.

Anywhere within a few mins walk of an Elizabeth line station. Obviously the further out you go the cheaper it gets. I'm thinking maybe east would be better if office is in the city.

Deloitte HR will have accommodation contacts. He needs to contact them himself, not you!

Are young people on apprenticeships eligible for the commercially run Student Halls?

I’m in SE London. Born and grew up here. I’ve heard that even a room in a house can be £1,000 a month. It’s ridiculous. Came on to say congrats to your son for doing so well. Xx

DS role is in M&A so I imagine he will spend a lot of time with clients. I think contacting Deloitte is the first port of call but please don’t worry there’s no way I’d be doing that. He’s fiercely independent and despite me taking a huge interest in where he’s going to live I am not that parent. He actually lived away from home ages 11-14 so this is not entirely new to any of us it’s more our lack of local knowledge which is the stumbling block,

These replies are honestly invaluable and I can’t thank you all enough.

I think our gut feeling to do something very temporary initially and scope it out is still the right thing but he’s need to be much nearer the centre. Having postcodes and areas is exactly what I need. Although I know we won’t be able to do much until June-August next year I like looking and planning!

Thank you all again for your help!

This is something I need to look at. Like a PP said I’m not sure he would be but all so some flat shares have a minimum age of 21.

These look like a great option!

Wow, M&A in Deloitte - he's going to be looking after you in your old age OP!! 😆

Seriously, that is big time. Well done to him!!

Thats the plan!!! 😂 Honestly we’re just so proud but in typical DS style he’s taking it all in his stride and the majority of people we know just don’t get ir

Is it a degree apprenticeship? If so he is eligible for the private student halls .

Young people his own age, no need to deal with shares of bills etc
