Any ideas for an aesthetic solution to wanting bedroom window in bungalow ajar overnight? I don’t want metal bars and am not sure about the effectiveness of those clip fastenings you can get.

The alarm in our bungalow has vibration sensors on the windows. We can leave them open or on breathe with the alarm on.
The opening ones are also quite small and high , except for the kitchen window, oh and we have two loud dogs!

I’m also interested in any good ideas

my bedroom is as the front and I have a small top window I can open but I would like to have the large one open in the summer. This year I opened it wide as soon as I got up then was making my bed and pottering around in my night stuff when an Amazon delivery man stuck his head through! Scared me to death! So it’s not just at night it’s a safety issue.

Years ago, when I had a ground floor flat, banhams used to fit metal grills in a pretty design. I had them on the top windows in my big windows.

Can you plant something spiky underneath like Pyracanthas as an additional deterrent to people reaching the window

A reminder that your window is full of glass - something easily broken...so anything you do needs to be in context.

I agree with putting spiky planted barrier below the window - it will keep the building cooler in summer as well.

You can get metal wire window restrictor straps - they are screwed in to the frame. You will see them on upper floors to stop folk falling out. Such as:

Thank you everyone. I’ll look into the suggestions.

I have a window restrictor fitted on my bedroom window in my bungalow so one of them only opens a couple of inches. The other window opens fully in case I need it as a fire exit !

I had a Jackloc 'The Titan' window restrictor fitted on my bedroom window. It looked more substantial than the window cables and has worked well. https://www.screwfix.com/p/jackloc-the-titan-window-restrictor-white-100mm/182hw

Perhaps not a thing of beauty tbh but does the job!
