I’m so excited! DH died last year and I really need to move, so I put a deposit down on a new build bungalow yesterday. I just needed to tell someone.

Congratulations! I wish you every happiness when you move into your new home! 🏡☺️

Wishing you the best in your new home. Congratulations ❤️

cleo333 · 24/11/2025 05:36

That’s so exciting well done you . I want a bungalow as my next home . I work in health and often see people living in homes, who when their health changes find it hard to navigate their home due to stairs etc and I want to be in a bungalow before that . Enjoy your new adventure

Joggingalongasbestican · 24/11/2025 05:42

Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m so excited about it and quite scared as well. It’s all the hassle of moving that’s scary, especially because I’m on my own. I really have to move, as everything in my house constantly reminds me of DH but not in a good way. Once I’ve moved I will find some lovely photos of happy times to put up.

It’s a really cute looking bungalow and it comes with underfloor heating, solar panels, and an air pump.

I will have to choose my kitchen and bathroom next.

How lovely! Congratulations OP. It sounds fab and you can choose a kitchen and bathroom that suits you perfectly.

fussychica · 24/11/2025 08:09

Congratulations. I hope you enjoy living in a bungalow as much as I do.

SunnieShine · 24/11/2025 08:12

I've always loved bungalows. I hope you're very happy in yours.

Advocodo · 24/11/2025 08:16

Great choice! Always think bungalows are good for all ages. Had a friend who had a bungalow with young children who kept all their toys in their bedroom so the lounge was always toy free. They would go to their nearby bedroom to get the toys they wanted to pay with in the lounge and then put them away. Sorry for loss of your darling husband. Feel sure you will be very happy. Very excited for you.

Htcunya · 24/11/2025 08:42

Will you need new furniture to fit or just less of what you already have?
A friend of mine was widowed and moved into a flat where she installed a new kitchen and bathroom, easy to clean. It's been a very good move for her.

It must be very daunting but a positive change too.

Lennonjingles · 24/11/2025 08:48

I’ve not seen any new developments that includes bungalows, so well done in finding one.

Buscobel · 24/11/2025 09:08

There are one or two developments locally with bungalows and the layouts are really good.

If you’re choosing kitchen and bathroom, see what upgrades there are and if you can do a deal. What’s in the show home might not be in yours and they might offer incentives to upgrade. Developers are struggling just now.

Joggingalongasbestican · 24/11/2025 09:33

I will need some new furniture, a smaller dining table and smaller sofas. Picking new bits is very exciting.

There are a lot of new estates being built locally but only 10 bungalows. I’m lucky enough to be able to buy one of the detached ones and there are just four of them.

Sounds lovely OP. I wish they were building bungalows in this area but no one is.

Nourishinghandcream · 24/11/2025 09:45

Congrats.🥰

There are a few bungalows on our NB development.
I would not want one myself and they certainly come with a cost premium but having been shown around by one of the new owners, I can see how they appeal.
The ones near us are mostly 2-bed, well laid out with utility room & study and large kitchen/diner/lounge (no room for a separate lounge unfortunately), they are relatively spacious and I can see why they were all snapped up.
The other advantage is that having a wide footprint, the gardens are quite generous.

Congratulations, Op🎉

outdooryone · 24/11/2025 10:12

Congratulations.

I don't know what your old house is like, but I moved 10 days ago from 1970's house to a new build and it is so much warmer, dryer and just lovely to be in.

I have discovered that the 'finishing touches' have mounted up. From curtains and blinds to shelves and coat hooks, loo roll holders and bathroom cabinet. It has cost more than my 'worst case' budget. My reasoning though is that I need to have them, and if I am going to do them they have to be done right...

I bought all my flooring elsewhere as the developer was so expensive but also did not have the choice a local place had. I have 80/20 wool and thick underlay throughout and commercial grade LVT for the same cost as the developer's options. It did mean that I had to call a friend to come help plane off the bottom of my new doors as the carpet was too thick!

Joggingalongasbestican · 24/11/2025 10:15

I love a new build. I know they aren’t for everyone but I like the fact that they are warmer and all shiny. I hate the idea of a project, especially as I’m on my own now. DH was a wiz at any DIY, whereas I’m a complete muppet.

OP posts:
Buscobel · 24/11/2025 12:31

Get someone to show you very carefully how the air source heat pump works. Our phase of the build has them and DH has had to explain to several neighbours how to use it to the optimum. I haven’t a clue and I have pointed this out to him several times.

People are often snooty about new builds, but here, they’re all different types, but all have very generous gardens and aren’t crammed in. We’ve done the renovation thing and now I want something that’s as easy to maintain and clean, as possible.

Plmnki · 24/11/2025 21:07

OP, you don’t sound like a muppet. Being a whiz at DIY is not important as you know :)

You sound like a courageous woman moving forward in a positive way after a devastating bereavement. Your bungalow sounds like it will be lovely and having a detached property is a wonderful bonus. Best wishes for a happy future there.

Nannyfannybanny · 24/11/2025 21:11

Good for you. Enjoy

Yay go you OP🥳

i think a bungalow will be my next home.

user1471538283 · 25/11/2025 17:27

Congratulations!

I too have a bungalow and it's the best thing ever! It's not a new build and I'm doing it up but I wanted to future proof myself.

I've moved such a lot and whilst it is unsettling and stressful I try to think of it as being just one day. If you can declutter before you move that will help.

I'm delighted for you!

Joggingalongasbestican · 25/11/2025 18:06

Thanks everyone. 💐

I’ve started decluttering, I’m finding it quite therapeutic.

That sounds absolutely wonderful @Joggingalongasbestican .
The best house I ever lived in was a bungalow. I loved the one level living and being able to step out into the garden. I had a bench outside my back door and spent hours there with a good book and a cuppa.

Sounds like your place will be really cosy and low maintenance. I hope you'll be very happy there.
