Surely everyone cleans the house they're moving out from?

Bought a house last week, the sellers faffed around so much on their moving out day and didnt get out for 6 hours after completion, which annoyed me to start off with.

But then I realised that they hadn't done any cleaning whatsoever, it's taken us the best part of three days just to de-grease the kitchen!

Surely you'd leave a house at least vaguely presentable?

I wonder if it’s a lot to do with the age of the people moving out. Perhaps younger people just don’t have any standards. It wouldnt occur to me not to clean the house before buyers moved in.

I'm early 30s and I'd never dream of leaving a filthy house behind me.

Our sellers were early 40s and did leave a lot of filth behind them. Like, I couldn't believe they'd actually lived in there till that very morning?! The house looked like it had been inhabited 😖

That said, I wouldn't expect a newly-bought house to be spotless clean. I think most people would still feel the urge to clean the house themselves. But I wouldn't expect a level of filth to need several days to make it liveable 😕

Age has nothing to do with it, some people are just manky bastards.
We first moved early 20's and last time was in our late 30's. All houses we left clean.

Our current house the previous owners were around 50 and the woman was a cleaner ! Yet left the house in a disgusting state.

We had to leave ours uncleaned as we lost our childcare and several moving helpers at the last minute - was planning to have it spotless but circumstances got the better of us.

Bought a flat this year, which I had loved when viewing and I was so disheartened when I got the keys. Previous owners hadn't cleaned or hoovered for months, everything was filthy. I had to book a professional clean before I could feel comfortable to move in. Plus there was a cracked window that hadn't been that way in the viewing, a broken oven and broken key in the postbox. All not declared. Hope karma gets you previous owners!

Some do, but not everyone does.

When I had to sell a house belonging to a relative, I lost count of the number of times I cleaned the kitchen cupboards, 'just to be sure'.

I also used a Bissell carpet cleaner to deep clean all the carpets.

I moved into one house and the owners were late leaving and had made no effort to clean...ever it might seem. Dog urine soaked floorboards, flea infested carpets, dusty cobwebs, grease, general grime everywhere, not even hoovered.

However, other houses have been clean. One we moved into shortly after I had given birth. Thankfully it was immaculate but I was clearly hormonal and neurotic (or maybe because they one before had been so grim I didn't trust it) and stayed up for hours bleaching every surface and cupboard in case of germs....a theme which continued for some time until we'd managed to decorate and replace everything. It was like I developed temporary ocd.

I spent days cleaning an empty house, travelling over 50 miles to do so and also got a cleaner in for half a day. It was spotless ... could not leave it dirty.
It should be in the sale contract surely.
