Temporary wall insulation

We are getting an extension done while living in the property and it is going to take months. The rear of the house will need to be open for a bit and the builder has put plyboard in the hall doors that open up to the area which will be rebuilt.

Any suggestion on how we can temporarily insulate the ply partitions during winter? the ply just on its own is not enough to block the cold air from getting in. Thanks in advance

You can get interlocking PU panels and tape to tape up the seams if you are willing to pay some money.

Otherwise I would probably just build a frame staple a polythene sheet over the top and then seal the edges to try to trap some air and approximate to double glazing, but without seeing a picture its hard to know what I would do. I have been very successful with the PU sheets at insulating an internal garage outer door.

These 2 will soon become external

I'd probably fix on some insulation boards (something KIngspan) - fairly cheap and easy to work with.

Check if your local library hires out thermal cameras - we've recently borrowed one and has been great in working out and fixing cold spots.

You could put in insulation boards and then seal off the inside with polythene and tape as pp suggests. Or you could use rockwool loft insulation which is dirt cheap, or basically shove anything in there that will trap the air, bubble wrap, polystyrene. Those big bags full of air you get in packaging. Just make sure you seal it off completely on the inside and outside if possible to try to trap a layer of air inside the gap. So long as it isn't permanent it doesn't have to be a great job.

I would buy kingspan and duct tape it in place.
