Hey everyone

Two ikea eket units glued to one another - on top of eachother - would like to dissolve the glue but not sure what to use

Not bothered about how it will affect the finish, will paint them anyway but definitely need them separated

Please do let me know your suggestions xx

Warm the glue with a hairdryer or heat gun. It should soften it enough to pull apart maybe.

This 👆

A heat gun works on most glues.

Home Bargains do an acetone based nail polish remover which I bought for glue removal. I've had to do something similar recently albeit with smaller units. I used a large scraper which I eased in and then kept whacking with a hammer until it went completely into the gap. Just when I was losing the will to live, the whole thing just popped apart as soon as I got a bit of leverage. Light sand and paint later, you'd never know.

Take the units apart. Reassemble to make one unit, dump the glued bits.
If you wanted 2 units, get another one from Ikea.

@mumofoneAloneandwell you can buy 100% acetone on Ebay I just searched. People use it to remove false nails (the seller is a beauty store) also to polish surfboards.

Hi. Nitromors paint stripper,or any chemical paint stripper. I once melted a bath( accidentally) with Nitromors so be careful and read the instructions 😊

You are out of luck. Acetone does not work on polyurethane glue once it is cured. It won't melt as it is a thermoset plastic, although it starts to lose its properties over about 180C - so basically you will be destroying the cabinet before you even get close to the temperature required to break the bond.

Best bet is to disassemble and buy replacements for the two affected components.
