House removals with full pack - what’s included?

I’m moving house with a full pack service soon and wondering how far they go.
Do they take down curtains and ceiling light shades and disconnect the washing machine? Stuff like that.

We used a full-pack service once, and it was beyond awful 🤣 we still laugh about it now because it was SO bad! I wish I’d done a live unboxing thread. My personal highlights:

  1. Cheese grater in with photo frames, which weren’t wrapped so it ended up being a cheese grater in a box of broken glass.
  2. Toiletries from the bathroom packed with a printer as well as food from the kitchen (no logic to this packing as the rooms were two floors apart!)
  3. Clothes pulled out of wardrobes and rammed into bags without taking them off hangers or folding them, so they were in a tangled heap Grin
  4. They wrapped the sooty log burner tools in WHITE BEDDING (why?!)
  5. They brought our wardrobe into our new house and took a chunk out of the ceiling and wall as they carried it up the stairs. They were asked to finish unloading and just leave at that point!

The best surprise of all was that not a single box was labelled with any indication of its contents, which actually became quite a fun game.

That sounds like a total nightmare!!

That sounds like a total nightmare!!

It was terrible at the time, but I can’t stop giggling when I think about it now 🤣

I’m sure most full-pack services are excellent and we just had a really crap one, so please have a laugh at my expense and don’t let it put you off! 😁

Ours didn’t do curtains, and they didn’t go into the loft, and they wouldn’t take prescription medication. Everything else they did, and we could leave the house as it was and they disconnected anything that needed it, and took apart any furniture that needed to be taken apart.

ETA - it was worth every penny (and actually didn’t add a huge amount to the cost anyway) and I wouldn’t move again with having it done

What about say clothes? Do you take every thing our if the chest if drawers first?

No, we didn’t need to. They had those boxes with hanging rails in for the wardrobe stuff, but chests of drawers they just carried out full.

I’ll need to ask about curtains.

The other thing I’m wondering about is what do you do while they are doing the packing? And, everyone seems to buy them bacon butties but as a life long vegetarian, I wouldn’t know where to go to get them. Will they be ok with some nice biscuits?

As they move through the house, I was in one of the next rooms, double checking everything. Ours packed by room. But i had a collection of boxes for items, that I really wanted packed into their boxes and then packed to move. They didnt - we got to the other end and had a box of empty boxes! I was cynical and had kept all my jewelry locked in the car whilst movers were there. Another friend hadn't and some of her stuff was missing when she unpacked. Most companies offer a 30 day insurance plan, so if you discover damage caused by move within 30 days, they will assess and get repaired.

We went out for the packing. They wanted us to just get out of the way tbh, I left a couple of packets of biscuits for them to help themselves to. We went back once they were out to do the final clean.

Where I messed up was they packed up the kitchen and then at the other end I was digging through boxes trying to find the kettle and mugs to offer them tea! (We aren’t tea drinkers so didn’t have the kettle in a separate box like I know some people do because they know they’ll want tea asap).

Also don’t leave anything valuable for the packers, things disappear and you don’t notice they are missing until you unpack everything which can be a while later. It’s also hard to prove that it’s been stolen. I wouldn’t do it again.

That’s worrying. I am using a reputable company so I’d hope it wouldn’t be an issue but I will be taking a box of valuables with me in the car.
