I really like this flooring: https://www.ukflooringdirect.co.uk/products/home-choice-engineered-european-rustic-oak-flooring-14mm-x-130mm-brown-sugar-lacquered?_pos=1&_sid=f33b4559d&_ss=r

Our builder said it might be possible though to find something the same quality but cheaper. I've been looking around but am wondering if anyone here has any go to places for low priced / high quality flooring? Thanks!

With engineed wood some of the price is in the thickness of the veneer layer.

I have used that "home choice" wood. The top layer of veneer is quite thin - it will only probably stand 1-2 sandings max.

They do another product range that has a thicker veneer but is more expensive. Can obviously be sanded more times.

The question you need to ask is, do you envisage it being down for a long time and being resanded several times ? If so you might want to go for the more expensive stuff.

If you envisage that you will never want to sand it and the floor will get not much wear maybe replace it then there is no point going for a massively thick veneer layer.

If you are interesting in moving house, most people just see "wood floor" and don't ask questions on type or depth of veneer layer.

Engineered wood behaves a lot better and looks identical to solid wood. I really don't know why someone would get solid wood these days. It all looks the same when it is installed.Myabe there are some specialist applications.
