Anyonw know anything about building reg's? Downstairs Cloakroom

We've decided to have an extension on the side of our house giving us a sitting/dining room, main bedroom, dressing room/nursery and en suite.

The plan is for the current sitting room to become a playroom/music room/study etc. for hubbie and future sproglets.

There is a large alcove under the stairs which would big enough for a downstairs cloakroom - however mum's suggested that building reg's may no longer allow a loo directly off a reception room.

Anyone know if this is true?

TIA

i know our neighbours have a cloakroom off their kitchen...

I thought the issue was with cloakrooms off kitchens, you have to have a door inbetween.
I would phone council planning department.

Thanks both, I suspect mum's thinking about kitchens. Will check with planning dept when time comes.

All changed now anyway.

At one time you needed 2 doors between loo and kitchen, so kitchen door-space-loo door. Now one door will suffice if there is another source of ventilation.

You will need an extractor fan but the laws have recently changed on doors etc and where it can be cited.I have often put a loo under the stairs in developments and nothing has ever been said on a survey when selling HTH

Thanks all - have spent the afternoon talking extension with DH and it now looks like we won't be bothering with the downstairs cloak after all!!
