Over board ceilings or replace.

Does anyone have experience in replacing a ceiling.

I have two options, rip out the original which is messy and expensive, or over board and skim over which is quicker and cheaper.

I'm not opposed to spending the money on the more expensive option if it's worth it but the opinion online is divided.

Is it a lathe and plaster ceiling? The risk is it can’t take the overboard and collapses

I had a couple of rooms that had damaged lathe and plaster ceilings overboarded with plasterboard.
The new plasterboard is screwed in to the rafters to take the load.

Looks great.

From the research I've done online, the main concern seems to be they don't use long enough screws or enough of them in general to properly secure the plasterboard.

I believe it is lath and plaster but can't be 100% sure until we get the keys and can have a proper look.

I would have said that it's relatively unusual to replace a ceiling if it isn't actually damaged - why do you want to?

There's bulging and some cracks, the survey we had recomended it be looked at and possibly replaced. I'm just doing research on our options, there's a popular opinion that over boarding is the best option but there's a vocal minority who say it's just covering up a problem and should be done properly.

Maybe you could patch the ceilings? In one of my houses the ceiling was sagging and I had just that part sorted out and replastered and it looked perfect.

It would have to be falling down for me to replace a ceiling.
