I live in an apartment block. Tonight the council approved the addition of a fourth floor with another 6 flats. We're absolutely devastated as have been desperate to leave for some time. I won't go into the catalogue of issues in our building but suffice it to say there have been many and we're fed up. We had a valuation done just the other day and were excited to put our flat on the market. The flat itself is nice and we've put a lot of work into it. We're also in a city and in an area with a lot of great amenities, lots of local transport links etc. Understandably, after the shock of this new floor being approved, my husband feels completely cynical about even listing our place for sale. He's worried about it coming up in searches that there is going to be significant building work and therefore disruption etc. The developers also (rightly) have a rubbish reputation, as do the management company. We sadly only discovered these facts after living here for a few years. My view is that yes my husband is right but also what's the harm of trying? Neither of us particularly want to live on a building site for years and this flat no longer fits our requirements in life. We have a young family, we want outdoor space and to live somewhere quieter/safer. Any insights? Any point trying to sell? It goes without saying that if this issue significantly affected the value of our flat we'd be forced to stay put until work is completed. I was planning to reach out to our estate agent who did the valuation but imagine I'd have to take his optimism with a pinch of salt! Thank you!
