Wood effect porcelain tiles in sitting room?

On to the next stage and choosing floors for our refurb. Initially we were going to have solid / engineered wood and started looking. We had this in our old house and I found it a pain in the kitchen and high traffic areas. It stained easily and was difficult to keep clean. In the kitchen I always felt we rocked from near miss to near miss.

Came across these wood effect porcelain tiles and am really taken with them. We now wonder if we should do this across our whole ground floor. Kitchen, hall, dining room and sitting room. Will have underfloor heating throughout and lots of nice rugs. We have dogs and teens. Really like these two brands - they look fab, sound very practical as mop / hoover and don't need any other maintenance. Also, they are vvvv cost effective compared to engineered wood.

Really like this one from Lapicida and this one from Mandarin Stone.

I'd love to hear from anyone who's done this. How's it gone? Pros and cons? Is it very noisy in the sitting room / dining room when everyone is talking away? I really like them but worried it won't feel as 'comforting' as wood.

We have these and I love them. Definitely recommend.

Put underfloor heating in though.

That's good to hear. Any downsides? Can you remember which brand you used?

A friend of mine has them throughout the whole of the ground floor. I thought they’d be a bit echoey but they’re not, they’re stunning.
its these laid as herringbone but with barely any grout showing.

Helpfully, I can’t remember! I just found them online- I think we got them from the Porcelain Tile Co? It was quite a while ago.

If I were being really, really picky, I’d say that I wish the tiles or ‘planks’ were a bit longer. But I think they have to be the size they are because being porcelain, if they were any longer, they’d be more likely to crack.

But overall, I’m delighted with them.

Will your dogs spend their lives slipping up?
Unless they are heavily textured that has been my experience.

We have engineered bamboo over our wet underfloor heating in the lounge, it's fabulous. Warm but not echoey from how hard they are,but very hard wearing, more so than wood. Also better eco credentials than wood as it's so fast growing.

I have these in my kitchen which i love. They have a slight ripple in them so feel a little like wood when walking on them.

Make.sure you colour match the grout

Id like to have them in the living room but DP isnt convinced (we dont have underfloor heating)

They’re textured like wood, not smooth and slippery.

I went to visit a new acquaintance in her very old farmhouse, the floor was very like the Lapicida one and until she pointed out the floor was tiled I hadn’t noticed.

If I won the lottery I would strip out all my flooring and replace with underfloor heating and wood tiles, not only is it practical it’s beautiful.

We have Mandarin Stone wood effect tiles in the en suite. If you look closely the grout gives them away. Nevertheless we are very pleased and thinking of changing over floor of the hall bath.

On its own terms, this type of tile is fine. I wouldn’t buy it thinking of it as a substitute for wood, though.
