Moving costs

Well, it looks like I’m going to be moving soon as my offer on a house was accepted.

Can anyone give me an idea of what moving costs should be as I’m going to need someone to help with this. 4 bed to a 3 bed in the same town.

And, do they usually provide moving boxes?

You can tailor the service to whatever you require.

Assuming you are talking a proper removals company (i.e. not man with van type) then they will survey your property, access size & number of vehicles & staff and then quote for no boxes/packing materials, supply boxes & packing materials or ultimate, a full packing/unpacking service.
The third option is the most user friendly for most.

My quotes earlier this year were the 3K mark. This included coming in and packing the day before. This was for a 4 bed house with garage to a 3 bed house 25 miles up the road in the northern home counties.

We bought boxes and bubble wrap online and packed up ourselves over several weeks. Wanted to do our own packing.
Removal firm provided wardrobe boxes on the day £40 each.
Moved from a 3 bedroom detached with a garage. Original quote was less than £700 but we needed extra hours due to key collection being late. Final bill around £1000

I’ve recently been quoted about £1300 by three firms to move from a 2 bed to a 4 bed. We have quite a lot of stuff for a 2 bed, including a piano. I also got one quote which was a bit less from a smaller firm because they weren’t VAT registered but then obviously they have less availability due to being smaller. I’m in the Home Counties and it’s a short distance move.

That’s not including boxes (all the firms offered a packing service but I wasn’t interested) but did include wrapping for mattresses, furniture and TVs.

Removal firms will provide boxes & packaging, sometimes for a refundable deposit, or they will quote to pack for you. The cost of this is really low compared to all your other costs, and for time and stress I would recommend you get them to do it. They know how to pack and will be quicker and better at it than you.

And also the most expensive.

We’re moving from a 3 bed with some garage contents to a 3 bed with garage (no loft) and were quoted about £1500-1800 to move 15 miles with part pack.

We’re moving ourselves now…

Hope it doesn’t cost that much.
