What would you do with this bathroom

Looking at a house that requires a loft extension to give a decent sized family bathroom, as I would like a walk in shower and bath.

As there is work to do downstairs first, this would need to come in a few years time. We need a bath for the kids, but I couldn't live with this handheld shower for that long. The window throws a spanner! Anyone think of a solution?

Get a longer hose and wall mount it with a shower curtain.

I think the issue is where to wall mount it, given the window.

Yes, that's the issue, how can we mount it and do a shower screen, as the window is in the way!

That's why I suggested a longer hose (so you can wall mount on the long wall) and an enclosing shower curtain (as it cuts off the window).

So a big U shape rail?

Can you wall mount it on the longer wall. You can buy a shower screen for the side of the bath. Single or folding.

Yes, as per the picture I posted.

You can also get loop ones.

Google L-shaped shower curtain rail. Then, as PP, a wall mounted shower riser rail. It's an easy DIY fix.

Would it be a huge job to get the waterfall type shower and put it from the ceiling ?

Depends how much you want to spend! There’s not enough room for a walk in shower and a bath. You can have a shower above the bath. If you’re willing to re-tile, or if you can get extra tiles to replace those you’d have to remove, I’d run a pipe inside the wall and have a ceiling mounted shower rose. Showering right in front of the window doesn’t feel very private, despite the frosting. If moving the bath to the left isn’t an option (it would involve completely redoing the bathroom) then I would address the window. It’s a shame to brick it up and lose the natural light, maybe a louvred wooden slatted shutter, with waterproof paint? You’ll have to accept replacing it every few years though. There might be a plastic version you can use instead.

Shower curtains are a pet hate, I don’t like the way they billow and stick to your body, and they stay wet for ages, inevitably becoming mouldy. It would also visually close off part of the room. Either a fixed glass panel running along the window-end half of the bath (cheaper and easiest to install) or a hinged panel (easier access for getting in and for cleaning, potentially more issues with leaking/drips on the floor. I’d go for a fixed panel. The width of the window versus width of the bath makes things trickier though. Unless you put the ceiling rose at the sink end of the bath, and glass screens at the end and down the side? Having a bath would be a bit more awkward then though as your head would be against the shower screen.

Also consider adding some non slip dots to the bath under the shower.

Unfortunately I don’t think there is a solution without compromising somewhere due to the available space and the long shape of the room.

Thanks for these ideas guys it's really helpful.

No we definitely can't get a walk in shower in here. I just need to be able to have a decent shower while we get a loft conversion done, which could take us a bit of time!

How much room is there between the end of the bath and the sink/vanity?

If there's enough room I'd get a stud wall built and have the shower at that end. Should be able to route the existing plumbing under the bath to the other side.

The option from @Chasingsquirrelsis best for a tight budget. If you want a bit more, you might be able to put a glass shower screen on the end of the bath near the sink and run a long shower hose to a high up shower head mid way along the wall over the bath, with the shower pointing towards the sink. Then have a curtain or moving shower panel to keep the water in the shower.

@Whaleadthesnail I would never have thought of that as an idea, thank you. I expect there would be space between to do this.
