Moben- any good or even reasonable experiences? I'm panicking!

On Saturday my DH and I foolishly signed up to a new kitchen from Moben. Baby DD was crying uncontrollably, we couldn't face trekking round more showrooms, the sales guy was lovely, we haggled hard etc. etc.

It was only afterwards that I logged onto Mumsnet and saw all the awful things written about Moben. I am now in bits and utterly terrified- have spent the whole weekend in a right state.

Please, has anyone ever used Moben and had an even halfway OK experience? Anyone got any tips for how to get the best out of them? If you have bad stories or "hahaha you silly twat, you should have checked MN" then, I beg of you, please don't post them. I have found enough "Avoid Moben like the plague" already!!!- and there is no cooling off period so we can't get out of it. I need reassurance, not necessarily the cold hard truth. Anyone?

I thought you always got a cooling off period? I have a friend who got theirs from there and it was lovely and she was very happy if that helps.

My parents had one in a holiday home and it was a nigthmare from start to finish.Sorry but you should know and when my parents started proceedings to deal with things they found many other people in the same boat There MUST be a cooling off period

Thanks piffle for the number which I rang. Apparently legally there is no cooling off period if you invite them to come to your house, rather than if they show up on the doorstep unannounced.

I have however rung Moben, and following a lot of "why are you unhappy", "internet reviews are made up by our competitors", "we will give you a discount", "we will change the terms and conditions so you pay after installation when you are happy", they told me that I could get the deposit back and cancel the whole thing if I wrote a letter to Head Office.

Which I have done.

Fingers crossed. I won't believe it till I see it.

Oh dear, just a bit too late! I was going to say that Moben did our kitchen and they did a fantastic job. We were really cautious about using them because of all the poor reviews but in the end, we got the price down to a pretty good level and they had the styles that we wanted.

That being said, we made them write down all the additional stuff they promised on the original contract (e.g. move electric points, change plumbing) so that they couldn't wiggle out of it, didn't pay any deposit and said we'd only pay on satisfactory completion. We also rang them every few days prior to delivery to check where they were all the time. Perhaps because we were quite difficult they sent us some really good, friendly, helpful kitchen fitters who did the job ahead of schedule and very well. It was handy, incidentally, that we did get everything written down as when the fitters did do the additional stuff the Moben sales guy tried to make us pay for the additional stuff...

I'd 2nd john lewis, their range is superb and now have lower priced range which is very competitive and lots nicer than the high street ranges. Incl ikea which I also rate highly.

Thanks to those who posted. I did manage to get the deposit refunded in full, after two and a half weeks. Now I am off down John Lewis!

I looked at the John Lewis website and they only seem to have freestanding kichen units. Is that right?
