I appreciate it’s hard to see but all I can think is it might be terrazzo? But I don’t think that was what was usually in these houses back then was it?

I'll dig out some pics and PM you. Ours was much more modest than yours, but we had lots of original features and did some cool things with it. I did have a mental breakdown in the process, but I can laugh about it now. Ha.

Yep I can sympathise with that. Our last house we had an extension built and I actually cried one day when the electricians left 😆

Not so much bodge, more a case of its an old house, it hasn't been touched for a long time and you find unexpected things. For example, I decided to chop down an overgrown bush in front of a bay window.....to find the wall behind needed repointing... Then there was the time I decided to put Amtico down - to find the area in question had 3 different types of floor beneath and each required preparing differently and at great cost....The list goes on...
